Highlights from the JLMC’s 2025 Spring General Membership Meeting
The Joint Labor Management Committee of the retail food industry (JLMC) held its Spring Trustee and General Membership Meetings on May 20th and 21st in Detroit, Michigan.
At our meetings, we bring our Trustees and members together with industry experts to discuss issues in the retail grocery industry and benefit issues in multi-employer trust funds that we are all concerned about. Our goal is to provide a forum for the discussion of these important issues.
At the spring meeting, members heard from recognized experts on a variety of topics, including:
- A discussion of current and past issues pension issues affecting multiemployer defined benefit pension plans by Horizon Actuarial Senior Consulting Actuary David Pazamickas
- A thought-provoking presentation on an in-store health advocacy program by UFCW Local 655 President Dave Cook, Local 655 Health Fund’s representative Ericka Smith, and Schnucks Senior Director of Labor Relations Mike Forte
- A comprehensive overview and discussion of current macroeconomic global economic issues, presented by David Lebovitz, Managing Director JP Morgan
- An in-depth presentation about best practices in various types of audits recommended for multiemployer health and welfare funds by Aruna Vohra, Senior Consultant for Horizon Actuarial
- A candid, data-driven presentation on “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of Health Care in America” by Segal’s Vice President and Consulting Actuary Eric Miller
- A current update on appointments and nominations in key benefit agency roles and legal developments under the Trump Administration from JLMC counsel Slevin & Hart Partner Paul Esposito.
The JLMC holds two meetings each year over the course of two days—one in the spring and one in the fall.
